The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Head Coach of the Black Stars, Carlos Quieroz have mutually agreed to terminate their Service Agreement following discussions over the team’s current circumstances.
In a statement, the coach said the decision was reached in a spirit of mutual respect, with the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football taking precedence.
He described the decision as difficult but said both parties agreed that ending their professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action.
The coach thanked the GFA and its President for the confidence placed in him and the opportunity to lead the national team.
He said he assumed the role with the objective of helping to build a stronger future for the Black Stars while contributing to the development of Ghanaian football talent.
“Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to his technical team and all those who supported the team, particularly during preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The coach reserved special praise for the Black Stars players, describing their commitment to representing Ghana with courage and pride.
He urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the players and protecting them as they develop.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he said, adding that the team possesses the talent and potential to achieve significant success with unity, support and the right environment.
The coach also thanked Ghanaian football supporters for their passion, support and warmth throughout his time with the national team.
He said he would leave Ghana with “respect, gratitude and pride”, adding that he would always carry the country with him.
“Ghana comes first. The Black Stars come first. Ghanaian football comes first,” he said.
The statement concluded with a message of gratitude to Ghana and a hopeful outlook for the future: “Thank you, Ghana. To the Future.”
