The Electricity Company of Ghana has moved to calm public anxiety over its prepaid billing system, insisting its meters meet strict testing standards and are properly certified before installation.
In a statement issued Tuesday, ECG said every meter is subjected to detailed calibration procedures and verified for compliance by the Ghana Standards Authority prior to deployment.
The company acknowledged receiving complaints from some customers and confirmed that investigations are already underway.
It stressed that although it stands by the reliability of its equipment, it is prepared to examine all reported cases thoroughly.
As part of efforts to promote transparency, ECG has requested the Ghana Standards Authority to independently and randomly test selected meters both in laboratories and in the field.
The outcome of the assessment, the company noted, will be submitted to the Energy Ministry.
ECG reiterated its pledge to deliver accountable and responsive service while engaging stakeholders to address public concerns.
