The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has directed students not to pay any increased accommodation fees, warning that no approved increment has been sanctioned for either private hostels or traditional halls.
In a notice dated Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Council said it had become aware of widespread concerns over alleged arbitrary increases in accommodation charges.
The SRC stated that it was taking steps to protect students from what it described as unapproved fee hikes.
“First and foremost, the SRC issues a strict directive regarding private accommodation, No Student should pay any increment on hostel rent under the current circumstances. We urge you to remain vigilant and immediately report any hostel management that attempts to increase rent without a proper, official assessment and approval from Rent Control.”
The Council also clarified that fees for traditional halls of residence remain unchanged and cautioned students against making payments based on unofficial fee schedules.
The SRC assured the student body that it remains committed to safeguarding their welfare and financial interests while engaging the relevant authorities to resolve the issue.
“The SRC remains unshakeable in its commitment to defending your financial interests and ensuring fair treatment across all residential facilities. Further updates will be communicated as the leadership engages with the necessary authorities to secure a fair resolution for all.”
The Council urged students to comply with the directive and report any attempts by hostel operators to impose rent increases without the necessary approval from the Rent Control Department.
