Several commuters escaped death but sustained injuries after a VIP passenger bus and a Kia truck transporting yams were involved in a crash at about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred near the entrance of the Osino Clinic, close to the Misa Filling Station, along the busy Kumasi–Accra highway. According to preliminary information, the truck was travelling from the Northern Region to Accra when its driver allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to drift into the lane of the oncoming bus.

Faced with the imminent danger, the VIP bus driver reportedly swerved off the highway in an attempt to avoid a direct collision and ended up on the premises of the filling station. Despite the evasive manoeuvre, the truck crashed into the bus, leaving several passengers with injuries ranging from bruises to head and body wounds.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist the victims. Some of the injured received initial treatment at the Osino Clinic before being transferred to Osiem Hawa Memorial Hospital for further medical care, while passengers who escaped without serious injuries remained at the scene awaiting alternative transport.

The impact of the collision also scattered yams across the highway, prompting personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to manage traffic and clear the road to restore the free flow of vehicles. Although no fatalities had been recorded at the time of reporting, authorities are continuing investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and assess the extent of the damage.
