Former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has donated an undisclosed amount of money to Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, to support its preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
Ayew made the donation on Tuesday, October 27, during a visit to the team’s training camp at the University of Ghana’s Ajax Park at Legon, where he also encouraged the players ahead of the international competition.
The former Ghana captain said he had come to offer the team his support and encouragement, expressing hope that the players would return from the tournament with a medal, preferably gold.
“I’m here to support and give you all the love and power that I can give you, and to wish you great luck. I hope that you guys will bring us a medal, but the gold will be better,” he told the players.
Ayew declined to disclose the amount donated to the media, saying the details would be shared privately with the team captain and officials.
The 2026 Amputee Football World Cup is scheduled to take place from November 13 to 22 in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, with 24 national teams expected to compete.
Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.
The Black Challenge will be seeking to make a strong impression at the tournament as it represents the country on the global stage.
Ayew’s donation adds to the support the team has received ahead of the competition, with calls continuing for individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to contribute to the players’ preparations.
The visit also offered the players an opportunity to receive encouragement from one of Ghana’s prominent football figures as they intensify their preparations for the tournament.
