Three people have died and 11 others have been injured in a head-on collision at Ajumako Kokoben in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
The accident involved a Toyota Voxy, registered CN 478-26, and a Toyota Isuzu pickup truck with registration number GE 1361-25.
Preliminary findings by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the Voxy was overtaking another vehicle when it drove into a thick cloud of dust, which reduced visibility on the road.
The driver allegedly failed to see the Isuzu pickup approaching from the opposite direction, leading to the collision.
The crash badly damaged both vehicles, leaving some of the occupants trapped.
A rescue team from the Breman Asikuma Fire Station, led by DO3 Christian Davidson, was dispatched to the scene following a distress call. Firefighters used specialised rescue equipment to free four people from the wreckage.
Seven other victims had already been pulled from the vehicles by passersby before emergency personnel arrived.
The injured were subsequently handed over to personnel of the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams and transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Three people died from injuries sustained in the crash. Their bodies have been deposited at a nearby morgue pending identification.
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Motorists have been advised to reduce speed and avoid risky overtaking, particularly on dusty stretches of road where visibility may be impaired.
