The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West and Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has met with transport operators across the constituency to discuss road safety measures amid ongoing road construction works.
The engagement brought together executives of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), commercial drivers, okada riders, and pragia riders to discuss the importance of exercising caution while using roads affected by the construction projects.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Gyan-Mensah appealed to motorists and riders to be patient and comply with road safety regulations as work continues to improve the road network in the constituency.
He acknowledged the temporary inconvenience caused by the construction works but stressed that the projects would ultimately enhance transportation and improve the movement of people and goods.
The Deputy Minister also announced the launch of his annual driver’s licence acquisition and renewal support programme, aimed at assisting unlicensed drivers and riders to obtain valid licences while helping licensed operators renew expired ones.
He said the initiative would include training programmes to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote responsible and safe driving.
As part of the support package, Mr. Gyan-Mensah distributed reflective jackets to commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders to improve their visibility and enhance road safety.
He also donated fuel coupons to drivers and riders to support their operations.
The MP reiterated his commitment to promoting safer roads and improving transport services in Gomoa West, urging all road users to work together to ensure the safety of lives and property while development projects are underway.
