A historic display of unity and cultural heritage unfolded at the fifth Awukudae Festival as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, hosted the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The visit was marked by a symbolic exchange of royal honours, with the Yagbonwura presenting the Asantehene with a rare and sacred elephant tusk—an artefact traditionally reserved for special occasions.
The gifts also included handwoven textiles, assorted drinks and kola nuts.
The presentation underscored the longstanding relationship between the Asanteman and Gonja kingdoms and reaffirmed their shared commitment to preserving Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and traditional values.
The event attracted a delegation of more than 100 chiefs, traditional leaders and dignitaries from the Gonja Kingdom, highlighting the significance of the royal engagement.
The gathering at Manhyia Palace celebrated the enduring bonds of friendship, mutual respect and cooperation between the two traditional kingdoms, reinforcing the important role of chieftaincy institutions in promoting national unity and cultural preservation.
