The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has filed a GHS10 million defamation suit against Kasoa-based Obaatanpa Radio and its Morning Show host, Kofi Kyei Baffour, over alleged false statements broadcast on the station.
Prof. Asiedu is seeking damages for what he describes as defamatory remarks made against him during a live morning programme, alongside a demand for a public apology and retraction from the station’s management and the presenter.
Speaking to the media, he alleged that the radio host accused him of orchestrating acts of violence within the NDC, particularly in the Awutu Senya East Constituency and other parts of the Central Region.
He described the claims as false, malicious, and intended to damage his reputation.
He also alleged that elements within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are behind attempts to undermine his image through coordinated media attacks.
Prof. Asiedu further denied claims that he assaulted any staff member of Obaatanpa Radio.
According to him, his visit to the station was solely to seek clarification over what he described as persistent insults and defamatory comments aired about him.
Addressing internal party tensions in Awutu Senya East, the Regional Chairman stated that he is not involved in the ongoing dispute between the constituency chairman and the area’s Member of Parliament.
He explained that the conflict predated his tenure and said he has instead focused on promoting unity within the party.
He also raised concerns about the conduct of some media personnel at Obaatanpa Radio alleging that certain broadcasts have contributed to rising tensions in Kasoa and surrounding communities.
In response, Prof. Asiedu said the NDC, together with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), has petitioned the National Communications Authority (NCA) to investigate the station over what he described as inflammatory programming.
