Ghana produced a resilient defensive performance to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw against England in their second Group L fixture at the FIFA 2026 World Cup at Boston Stadium.
Both sides created scoring opportunities throughout the match, but neither was able to find the breakthrough.
The Black Stars were particularly indebted to goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, whose impressive saves helped preserve the clean sheet.
The result leaves Ghana and England level on four points in Group L, keeping qualification hopes alive for both teams heading into their final group matches.
Speaking after the game, England head coach Thomas Tuchel expressed disappointment at his side’s inability to convert their chances, highlighting a missed second-half opportunity by striker Harry Kane.
Tuchel observed that Ghana adopted a more defensive approach compared to their opening match against Panama, which the Black Stars won with a dramatic late goal.
“They went more defensive than the first match. They went 4-5-1,” Tuchel said.
“We had them, found our rhythm, but it was okay.”
The England manager declined to look ahead to his team’s next fixture against Panama, noting simply that the match was still several days away.
Former England captain John Terry, who had predicted a 2-1 victory for England before the game, praised Ghana’s disciplined display.
Assessing the encounter, Terry described the Black Stars as “very solid” and “very together,” commending the leadership shown by captain Jordan Ayew and midfielder Thomas Partey.
He singled out Partey for praise, noting his contribution in organising and marshaling Ghana’s defence throughout the match.
Despite the positive result, Terry advised Ghana to improve its attacking output, warning that a predominantly defensive approach may not be sufficient to secure progression beyond the group stage.
Looking ahead, Terry expressed confidence in England’s chances, predicting that the Three Lions would defeat Panama and finish top of Group L.
The draw ensures that the race for qualification from the group remains finely balanced as the tournament heads into its decisive final round of matches.
