The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has announced that the long-awaited Weija Children’s Hospital in the Greater Accra Region will soon be opened to the public following an agreement between the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for the immediate handover of the facility.
In a statement issued on July 16, 2026, EOCO said the breakthrough was achieved after a series of engagements it facilitated between the Ministry and the contractor to ensure that the hospital is transferred to the government for operationalisation.
According to EOCO, the agreement was reached despite outstanding issues surrounding the project, including claims by Awerco Construction Limited over unpaid sums and concerns raised by the project’s financier regarding procurement processes and related matters.
The anti-graft agency noted that all parties agreed that the completed facility should be handed over and opened to the public without further delay in the national interest, allowing the hospital to begin delivering specialised healthcare services to children and families.
EOCO emphasised that investigations into allegations of procurement breaches, financial impropriety and other matters linked to the project remain ongoing and that the handover arrangement would not affect or prejudice those investigations.
The Office commended both the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for placing national interest above all other considerations and working together to reach an amicable solution.
EOCO reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public resources, promoting transparency and accountability, and ensuring that public infrastructure projects deliver their intended benefits to Ghanaians.
