The Ministry of Health’s nationwide assessment tour under the Maternal Mortality Action and Response Programme (MMARP) has reached the Eastern Region as part of efforts to strengthen maternal healthcare services and reduce maternal deaths across the country.
The first day of the tour commenced at the Eastern Regional Health Directorate in Koforidua, where key stakeholders in the health sector convened to assess challenges and identify practical interventions to improve maternal health outcomes.
Participants at the meeting included representatives from the Ghana Health Service, private health facilities, the National Ambulance Service, the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), and other development partners.
Discussions focused on gaps within the maternal healthcare delivery system and strategies to enhance access to quality care for pregnant women, improve emergency response services, and strengthen coordination among healthcare providers.
As part of the visit, the delegation led by the Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah also paid a courtesy call on Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, Omanhene of New Juaben, to seek the support of traditional authorities in advancing maternal health initiatives.
The engagement highlighted the critical role of traditional leadership and the importance of male involvement in supporting women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.
The Deputy Minister expressed appreciation to the New Juaben Traditional Council and its partners for their continued commitment to improving healthcare delivery and safeguarding the lives of mothers and newborns.
