The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has issued a stern warning to contractors executing the government’s 24-hour economy market projects in the region, urging them to adhere strictly to timelines and deliver quality work.
According to the Minister, the 24-hour economy initiative is a flagship programme of the government aimed at stimulating economic activity, creating jobs, and improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians through expanded commercial opportunities.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the 24-hour economy market project in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, Hon. Eduamoah stressed that the success of the policy depends heavily on the timely completion and quality of the infrastructure being developed across the country.
He cautioned contractors against delays, poor workmanship, and project abandonment, stressing that the region cannot afford incomplete facilities that fail to meet the needs of local communities.
Drawing lessons from previous infrastructure initiatives, the Minister said he was determined to avoid situations where some projects are left unfinished while others are completed, noting that such occurrences undermine public confidence and development efforts.
Hon. Eduamoah emphasized the need for contractors to demonstrate professionalism, competence, commitment, and accountability throughout the construction process.
He further assured residents that he would personally monitor the progress of the projects to ensure strict compliance with approved timelines and specifications.
The Regional Minister also directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Central Region to take an active role in supervising projects within their jurisdictions.
He urged the local authorities to conduct regular site visits, closely monitor progress, and promptly report any challenges that could delay completion.
Also speaking during the inspection tour, the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East Constituency, Emelia Ankomah, commended President John Dramani Mahama and the government for introducing the 24-hour economy policy.
She described the initiative as a transformative intervention capable of boosting local economic growth, supporting businesses, and creating sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
Hon. Ankomah expressed confidence that the market project would significantly enhance commercial activities in the municipality and improve the socio-economic well-being of residents upon completion.
She also appealed to community members to support the initiative and safeguard the facility to ensure its long-term benefits for the area.
