Perpetual Lomokie has withdrawn her intention to contest the position of National Women’s Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement titled “A Statement of Reflection and Rescission,” Ms Lomokie said her decision followed deep reflection, prayer, extensive consultations and careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding her candidacy.
She described the decision as difficult, noting that she entered the race with a clear vision and a strong belief in the potential of women to contribute to the growth and development of the party when provided with the necessary support and leadership.
Ms Lomokie expressed gratitude to women, friends, colleagues, delegates and other supporters who encouraged and supported her throughout her campaign.
“Being part of the journey. We have achieved so much together, and even though we could not continue to the end, may the bond established during this period endure in our future endeavours,” she stated.
She stressed that her decision to withdraw from the contest did not mean she was abandoning her commitment to the empowerment of women or the development of the NPP.
“Stepping back from the contest does not mean stepping away from the cause,” she said, reaffirming her commitment to women’s empowerment, the growth of the party and the advancement of Ghana.
According to Ms Lomokie, leadership sometimes requires individuals to recognise when to push forward and when to pause, describing her decision as one taken with wisdom and courage.
She said she was leaving the contest with gratitude and valuable lessons, while wishing all the remaining candidates well.
Ms Lomokie further urged members of the NPP to prioritise the broader interests of the party over individual ambitions, particularly the need for unity, renewal and victory.
“My journey continues. My convictions remain. And there is still much work to be done,” she stated.
Her withdrawal reduces the number of aspirants seeking to lead the NPP’s women’s wing as the party prepares for its internal elections and works towards rebuilding its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
