Stephen Ayensu Ntim, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has temporary withdraw from all party activities due to deteriorating health.
This was confirmed by his family in a letter dated Monday, June 16, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders.
According to the family, the health issue of Mr. Ntim is concerning, describing it as involving “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation” with party activities.
The family expressed grave concern about his continued involvement in party functions, particularly his expected role as chair of a high-level meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
According to the family, Mr. Ntim’s participation in such engagements could endanger his health and infringe upon his dignity and fundamental human rights.
The family further expressed disappointment after learning from an internal party circular that Mr. Ntim was scheduled to chair the upcoming meeting, despite widespread awareness within the party of his current health challenges.
The statement emphasized that even attending the meeting in any capacity would be detrimental to Mr. Ntim’s health, let alone chairing it.
“Common sense dictates that, Steve, as a matter of urgency, be temporarily excused, not only from the rigors of active politics, but from intra-party activities in order to make way for needed peace and solace and for concentration on the ongoing required medical treatment process.”
“The family learned of a circular from the Party Headquarters signed by its General Secretary about a convened party meeting to be held at Alisa Hotel on June 17th 2025. We are concerned, deeply saddened and object to the fact that Steve is scheduled to chair the event, although he it is known to the party rank and file he is indisposed and incapacitated to be in attendance, let alone chairing the function.”
“As with any human, even merely participating in such event will not augur well for Steve due to his current cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation for such a high profile event at a time like this, not to even factor in chairing it and we the family members reject this wrong move in the subtly back drop of his personal human rights.”
As of now, the NPP has not issued an official response to the family’s appeal.
