Parliament has explained a notice asking some national service personnel to seek reposting after it sparked discussion on social media. The notice, displayed on Parliament’s notice board, read; “No Vacancy for National Service Personnel 2026/2027. Kindly go for reposting.”
Parliament said the message was not a policy decision or a suspension of national service placements.
Instead, it was issued to prospective national service personnel who had reported to Parliament for the 2026/2027 service year.
“The notice was a routine administrative message addressed to prospective personnel who reported to Parliament.”
According to Parliament, the institution had received more personnel than it could accommodate for the new service year. Those who could not be accommodated were therefore advised to seek reposting to other institutions.
Parliament said the notice should not be interpreted as a change in its position on the National Service Scheme.
“It was not a policy statement, a freeze on national service placements, or a reflection of any change in Parliament’s support for the National Service Scheme.”
The clarification follows public commentary about the notice and concerns over whether Parliament had stopped accepting national service personnel. Parliament said the issue was strictly related to its available capacity for the 2026/2027 service year.
The legislature also reaffirmed its support for the National Service Scheme and recognised the contribution of personnel to its work.
“Parliament remains committed to the National Service Scheme and values the contribution of service personnel to its work.”
It also expressed regret over the confusion caused by the wording of the notice. “It regrets any confusion or inconvenience the wording of the notice may have caused.”
Parliament’s clarification indicates that the notice applies to its own capacity for the 2026/2027 service year. It does not represent a general freeze on national service placements or a withdrawal of Parliament’s support for the scheme.
