The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integrtion has begun issuing free replacements of Ghana’s new chip-embedded passports to victims of the recent devastating floods whose travel documents were either lost or damaged.
The initiative forms part of the government’s humanitarian response to support affected residents as they recover from the aftermath of the floods.
According to the Ministry, about 500 Ghanaians have so far applied to benefit from the free passport replacement exercise.
Officials said all applicants have undergone the required security, nationality, biometric and identity verification processes before receiving the new passports.
The Ministry noted that the exercise is intended to help flood victims replace essential travel documents without incurring additional financial burdens during the recovery period.
It also commended the efforts of the Chief Director, Ambassador Khadijah Iddrisu, the Acting Director of Passports and staff of the Passport Office for their role in ensuring the smooth implementation of the initiative.
The Ministry described the free passport replacement programme as its contribution to the national recovery effort, reaffirming its commitment to supporting citizens affected by the floods.
It added that it remains committed to delivering essential services while standing in solidarity with victims as recovery efforts continue.
