The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has presented GHS12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), representing proceeds from the sale of 17 gold bars seized from illegal gold traders in 2025.
GoldBod announced the presentation in a statement shared on Wednesday, July 15, explaining that the payment forms part of its reward policy designed to promote intelligence-led operations and strengthen collaboration with state security agencies in the fight against illicit gold trading.
The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, said the funds were distributed in accordance with the Board’s framework for recognising individuals and institutions that contribute to successful enforcement operations.
He explained that 10 per cent of the proceeds was allocated to the informant whose intelligence led to the seizure of the gold bars.
Mr. Gyamfi added that an additional 20 per cent was approved by the GoldBod Board of Directors for NACOC officers who participated in the operation, in recognition of their courage and commitment.
Another 20 per cent was awarded to NACOC as an institution for providing the personnel and resources required for the successful operation.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of NACOC, the Director-General of the Commission, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, commended GoldBod for honouring its commitment under the reward scheme.
He said NACOC remains committed to strengthening its partnership with GoldBod to combat illegal gold trading and other activities that pose a threat to Ghana’s mineral resources sector.
GoldBod stated that the initiative reflects its commitment to encouraging credible intelligence, enhancing cooperation with security agencies, and protecting the country’s gold resources through stronger measures against illegal trade.
