Parliament will not sit on Friday, July 10, 2026, after Speaker Alban Bagbin directed Members of Parliament, particularly those representing flood-affected constituencies, to participate in the National General Cleaning Exercise.
The decision follows the government’s declaration of Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as National General Cleaning Days across seven regions affected by recent flooding. The exercise is aimed at clearing choked drains and waterways to reduce the likelihood of additional flooding.
Addressing the House, Bagbin said the decision was reached after consultations with parliamentary leadership on how Parliament could contribute to the nationwide initiative.

He noted that MPs would be more effective by joining cleanup efforts in their constituencies and working directly with residents.
Bagbin said, “Among the matters we considered was whether it would be appropriate for the House not to sit on Friday, 10th July 2026, to enable Honourable Members from the affected regions to return to their constituencies and provide direct leadership in the cleanup exercise alongside their people. Definitely, it was a unanimous yes.”
He added that Members would be informed later about any changes to the parliamentary schedule resulting from the suspension.
