Reliable information available to The Overseer News indicates that Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor has resigned from his position as Acting Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency (NiTA).
Dr. Kevor confirmed his resignation during a meeting with National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency secretaries and their deputies at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council in Koforidua.
Prior to his appointment at NiTA, Dr. Kevor had reportedly sought several high-profile positions, including Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), and Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), but was unsuccessful.
The reasons for his resignation are not immediately known. However, sources suggest that he had been dissatisfied with the role since assuming office as Acting Director-General.
Some of his supporters argue that the NiTA position did not reflect his political standing, particularly given his role as Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC and his contributions to the party’s success in the region. They believe his decision to step down will allow him to refocus on his regional leadership and potentially seek re-election.
Dr. Kevor’s challenges in government are also said to have intensified following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of his political mentor, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and seven others.
Given Dr. Omane Boamah’s ties to the Eastern Region, there had been speculation that Dr. Kevor might be considered for a ministerial appointment to represent the region. However, such expectations have not materialized.
Sources close to Dr. Kevor indicate that while he remains open to serving in any capacity if given the opportunity, his immediate focus will be on his role as Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC.
