Mahama is demanding an immediate probe into allegations of bribery in the award of overseas scholarships, following claims by former NEIP CEO, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, that an individual paid to secure a scholarship to study abroad.
The directive, addressed to the Director-General of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), follows comments made by Mr. Nkansah during a radio discussion aired on Sompa 106.5 FM, which has since gained wide public circulation.
In a letter dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, the Presidency said the President considers the allegation to be “serious and of grave public concern,” particularly in view of government’s commitment to transparency, integrity and equal access to educational opportunities.
“The attention of the President has been drawn to a radio discussion aired on Sompa 106.5 FM,” the directive stated.
It said the President has instructed the NIB to “immediately investigate the allegation, establish its factual basis, identify any persons involved, and determine the veracity or otherwise of the claims made.”
The Bureau has further been directed to submit its findings to the President for consideration and any appropriate action that may arise from the outcome of the investigations.
