Parliament will debate the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review over a three-day period, including a rare Saturday sitting, to expedite consideration of the government’s updated fiscal and economic policy measures.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga announced the schedule while presenting the Business Committee’s statement for the 10th week of parliamentary business, covering Tuesday, July 21, to Saturday, July 25.
The debate will commence after the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, presents the Mid-Year Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government of Ghana for the 2026 Financial Year.
According to Mr Ayariga, leadership of the House is expected to conclude its comments on the budget review by Monday, July 27.
“Comments on the statement will commence, and we expect Leadership to conclude the commentary on Monday, 27th July, 2026,” he told the House.
The Majority Leader explained that the decision to extend parliamentary sittings to Saturday was necessitated by the volume of outstanding business before the House and the limited time available to complete deliberations.
“Due to the pending business before the House and time constraints, the Committee proposes that the House sit on Saturday, 25th July, 2026, to dispense with some outstanding business and continue with the commentary on the Mid-Year Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government of Ghana for the 2026 Financial Year,” he said.
He urged Members of Parliament to make themselves available for the scheduled sittings to ensure the House completes its work within the proposed timeframe.
The planned Saturday sitting marks a departure from Parliament’s usual schedule, as the House typically does not meet on weekends or Mondays, allowing lawmakers time to travel between their constituencies and Accra before parliamentary business resumes on Tuesdays.
