Teacher trainees across the country have begun receiving five months’ worth of long-awaited allowances, following the government’s disbursement of GHS 67,671,080 through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).

The payment, which covers the non-feeding component of the allowance, benefits 30,157 students in 37 public Colleges of Education. Disbursement began on August 1, 2025, based on verified student data submitted by the institutions.

Confirming the release, SLTF CEO Dr. Saadija Shiraaz announced via social media that the funds were received from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, with the final tranche arriving on July 29.

we proceeded to pay teacher trainee allowances of five months to 30,157 students in 37 Public Colleges of Education based on the data available to us at the time,” she stated, adding that more data is being processed and additional payments will follow after pre-audits.

Dr. Shiraaz also appealed for patience and respectful engagement as the SLTF team works behind the scenes to ensure all eligible students are covered.

She noted that reimbursements under the “No-Fees-Stress” initiative are still ongoing, with an extended deadline to accommodate more students.

The SLTF reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and timely support for Ghana’s teacher trainees.
