The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and Regional Commanders to strengthen professionalism, accountability and effective leadership within the Ghana Police Service.
He made the call at the Police Regional Commanders Conference held at the National Police Headquarters, where he emphasised the need for the Service to respond effectively to the growing expectations of the Ghanaian public.
According to the Minister, Ghanaians expect a Police Service that is professional, visible, approachable and competent, with a strong emphasis on crime prevention and the protection of lives and property.
He urged police leadership to work towards building a Service that protects the vulnerable, pursues offenders and safeguards the innocent, while upholding the highest standards of integrity, discipline and professionalism.
Mr Muntaka further stressed the importance of accountable and effective leadership at all levels of the Service, noting that public confidence in the police would depend largely on the conduct, competence and commitment of its officers.
He therefore charged the IGP and Regional Commanders to provide the leadership needed to transform the Service into one that consistently meets the security needs and expectations of citizens.
