Ibrahim Kwaku Gyasi, popularly known as I.K. Gyasi, a distinguished Ghanaian educationist, author, and veteran newspaper columnist, has died at the age of 87.
Widely respected in both education and media circles, I.K. Gyasi was a long-serving contributor to *The Chronicle* newspaper, where he wrote the influential column “Bluntly Speaking” for more than two decades.
Through his writing, he offered forthright commentary on education, governance, and national development. He retired from active journalism in August 2016, ending a media career that spanned nearly 50 years.
In the education sector, Gyasi was deeply associated with T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS) in Kumasi, his alma mater.
He made history as the first past student to be appointed Headmaster of the school, a position he held from 1990 to 1998. Beyond administration, he was a committed English language tutor who mentored and shaped generations of students.
His contribution to education also extended to authorship, with several educational books to his credit, particularly in English language instruction.
In recognition of his impact on journalism, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) conferred on him honorary membership in 2023.
News of his passing was confirmed by the AMASS 1979 Secretariat, which described his death as a significant loss to both the education and media fraternity in Ghana.
