Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has called on party delegates to retain Justin Frimpong Kodua as the party’s General Secretary while voting out the other national officers in the upcoming internal elections.
Dr. Opoku believes Mr. Kodua can deliver a stronger performance for the party in the 2028 general elections if he works with a competent National Chairman and National Organiser.
Dr Opoku made this call in a statement on his Facebook wall on Friday August 8, 2026.
According to him, the General Secretary’s performance should not be assessed in isolation, arguing that effective coordination among the party’s national leadership is crucial to achieving electoral success.
He cited the performance of former NPP General Secretary John Boadu during the 2016 and 2020 elections as an example.
Dr. Opoku argued that Mr. Boadu performed strongly during those election cycles because he had effective National Youth and National Organisers who properly supervised and coordinated the various wings of the party.
He therefore maintained that providing Mr. Kodua with a stronger leadership team could enable him to improve significantly on the NPP’s 2024 electoral performance and contribute to the party’s efforts to reclaim power in 2028.
Dr. Opoku’s comments come as the NPP prepares for its internal reorganisation and elections, with delegates expected to determine the party’s next crop of national executives.
