Former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has donated a pickup vehicle and 15 motorbikes to the Accra Regional Police Command to support policing and crime-fighting operations within the capital.
The businessman and politician also presented a pickup vehicle and medical incubators to the 37 Military Hospital to enhance healthcare delivery at the facility.
The donations were made as part of activities marking Mr. Agyapong’s birthday.
He described the gesture as his “widow’s mite” and a token of appreciation to institutions and personnel who continue to serve Ghanaians with dedication.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Agyapong stressed that the donations were not politically motivated but were intended to support hardworking security personnel and healthcare professionals whose contributions often go unnoticed.
“I am a Ghanaian and I must help. We have to support committed police officers. If you recognise their sacrifice, you don’t bring politics into it. That is why today, on my birthday, I’m here to give my widow’s mite and show appreciation, especially to the three young men who have protected me for the past four years,” he said.
According to him, the pickup vehicle donated to the Police Service will be assigned to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), while the 15 motorbikes will be used by the Bravo Unit to strengthen operational effectiveness.
Mr. Agyapong also expressed gratitude to the police officers who attended the event, noting that they had taken time away from their duties to receive the donation.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Police Service, Duuti Tuaruka, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, thanked Mr. Agyapong for the gesture and assured him that the vehicles and motorbikes would be used strictly for official duties.
“We assure you this gesture will not be used for private purposes. You won’t see the vehicle picking children or doing domestic work. We will use it to improve security. That is our assurance to you,” COP Tuaruka stated.
He described the donation as a demonstration of Mr. Agyapong’s commitment to public service and support for the country’s security agencies.
The Police Commander further noted that the contribution would enhance patrol operations and strengthen efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety in the Greater Accra Region.
