President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to fully embrace the Free Primary Healthcare programme, particularly its home-visit component aimed at bringing essential health services directly to households.

President Mahama made the call at a Free Primary Healthcare durbar held at the Zuarungu Health Centre during his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region.

He described the home-visit initiative as a critical component of the programme, saying it would enable health workers to identify illnesses and health risks at an early stage while bringing healthcare closer to communities.

Under the initiative, community health nurses and volunteers will visit households to conduct basic health screenings, including checks for hypertension and diabetes.

The health workers will also identify pregnant women, newborns and other persons who may require further medical attention and refer them to appropriate health facilities where necessary.

President Mahama encouraged households to welcome the health workers and cooperate with them during the visits.

He also urged beneficiaries to take referrals seriously and seek further medical attention when advised, stressing that early detection and treatment could help prevent serious health complications.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving universal access to quality healthcare, regardless of a person’s location or socio-economic circumstances.

He said the Free Primary Healthcare programme was intended to reduce inequalities in access to healthcare by ensuring that essential services reach people in their homes and communities.

“People should not die because of where they were born or where they live. Everybody has a right to good healthcare,” President Mahama said.

He called on communities to actively participate in the programme and support health workers as government works to bring primary healthcare services closer to every household.
