The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has denied claims that the Black Queens are owed outstanding per diems, insisting that all approved payments due to the team have been settled.
In a statement dated Wedbesday, August 12, 2026, the Ministry said players and eligible officials received their per diems on July 29 for the period covering July 26 to August 7, with an additional payment made on August 11 for August 8 to 14.
“Accordingly, as of 12 August 2026, Government has no outstanding per diem obligation to the Black Queens,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry also confirmed that the team earned one winning bonus from its group-stage victory over Cape Verde, but said the payment is still being processed in line with established financial procedures.
It further clarified that there was no government-approved winning bonus for the Black Queens’ WAFCON qualifying matches against Egypt.
“There was no Government approval for the payment of winning bonuses for the WAFCON qualifying matches against Egypt,” the statement said.
The Ministry also rejected concerns over inadequate welfare support, saying the team has a support structure comprising medical, physiotherapy, nutritional, administrative and technical personnel.
The clarification comes as the Black Queens prepare for a FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualification play-in against Côte d’Ivoire after their quarter-final exit from the WAFCON.
“Government remains firmly behind the Black Queens,” the Ministry said, wishing the team success in its bid to qualify for the World Cup.
