The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen collaboration in the fight against corporate fraud and other economic crimes.
The renewed partnership was highlighted at a high-level meeting held at the CID Headquarters, where senior officials from both institutions discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of corporate misconduct.
The engagement brought together the leadership of the ORC, led by Registrar of Companies Maame Samma Peprah, alongside officials including the Director of Administration and General Services, Kwesi Owusu-Abrokwa, and Head of the Legal Directorate, Rebecca Aryeetey Smith.
The CID delegation was led by Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor and included senior directors overseeing economic crimes, fraud investigations, cybercrime, intelligence, and domestic violence units.
Discussions focused on the growing sophistication of corporate fraud, including forgery of statutory documents, identity theft, impersonation of company officials, fraudulent alteration of corporate records and falsification of regulatory filings.
The ORC stressed that the corporate register remains a critical national asset that informs investment, lending and regulatory decisions, warning that any compromise of its integrity poses a serious threat to Ghana’s business environment and investor confidence.
Officials from both institutions agreed on the need for stronger intelligence sharing, improved investigative coordination, capacity building and structured engagement mechanisms to enhance enforcement of corporate laws.
COP Lydia Yaako Donkor reaffirmed the CID’s commitment to supporting the ORC in tackling corporate and economic crimes, assuring that the Police Service will intensify efforts to detect and prosecute offenders within the corporate regulatory space.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to institutionalise a stronger strategic partnership aimed at improving transparency, accountability and regulatory compliance.
