Parliament is set to sit on Monday and Saturday starting today, July 7, 2025, in order to clear outstanding business before its scheduled adjournment on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga made this known when presenting the Business Statement for the seventh week in Parliament.
According to him, the extended sittings are necessary to fast-track the consideration of Legislative Instruments (LIs) and other critical matters that must be concluded before the House rises.
Mr. Ayariga, who also chairs the Business Committee, disclosed that the coming week will be packed with activities.
Fifty-five Ministers of State, as well as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, are expected to appear before the House to respond to questions from Members of Parliament.
He also hinted at the possibility of introducing new bills, which, if considered urgent, could be passed through all required stages in a single sitting in line with Standing Order 160.
Additionally, committee reports will be presented, papers laid, and motions debated, with accompanying resolutions taken where necessary.
“Motions may be debated and their consequential resolutions, if any, taken during the week,” Mr Ayariga said. “In accordance with Standing Order 216(2), and subject to Standing Order 67, the Committee submits to the House the order in which business shall be taken.”
