Over 200 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have officially declared their support for former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a press briefing following Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with the former MMDCEs on Monday, June 23, 2025.
Addressing the media, Ebenezer Doku, former MCE Adenta stated that the endorsement comes after extensive consultations and a thorough evaluation of the various aspirants vying for the NPP flagbearer position.
“Today, we have listened to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, we have also listened to other aspirants. Following extensive consultation with all aspirants and after a thorough assessment of their vision, their competence and commitment to the NPP progress, we are convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the NPP,” Mr. Doku said.
The group, which comprises of over 200 former MMDCEs who served between 2017 and 2024 under the last NPP administration, emphasized that their support for Dr. Bawumia is both strategic and operational.
“Pledging not just our votes begin, but our time, our resources and energy to mobilize, to campaign, and deliver a massive support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia candidacy. Our endorsement is not merely symbolic. It is strategic and operational commitment,” Mr, Doku added.
