The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Oda Constituency, Agbesi Benjamin, has been suspended from his position following the emergence of an audio recording alleged to show him discouraging a prospective member from joining the party.
The decision was taken by the Eastern Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the NDC after deliberations at a virtual meeting held on January 21, 2026. Party officials say the conduct captured in the audio falls short of the standards expected of a constituency communications officer.
In a formal notice addressed to MAgbesi, the REC said it had been alerted to “various acts of misconduct” attributed to him, with the latest being an audio recording in which he is allegedly heard advising a new convert against joining the NDC, despite the party’s recent electoral gains and growing appeal.
Following discussions, the committee invoked provisions of the party’s constitution to take immediate action, suspending him from his role and referring the matter to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for further examination.
The suspension takes effect immediately, and Agbesi has been directed to hand over all party property in his possession to the Constituency Secretary.
The disciplinary committee is expected to invite him to appear before it to respond to the allegations, after which it will submit its findings and recommendations to the REC for final consideration.
