The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to rename the party’s headquarters after late former President Jerry John Rawlings as part of efforts to celebrate his legacy.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising held at the Lasi Park in Agormanya, Eastern region on June 4,2025.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nketiah indicated that Functional Executive Committee(FEC) of the party has approved a number of proposals, pending confirmation by the National Executive Committee(NEC) of the party.
Top amongst the proposals is the renaming of the party’s headquarters to “Jerry Rawlings House”
“Party headquarters across the world are named after their founders. Ghana cannot be an exception. We will begin the process to rename our national headquarters as Rawlings House, “he said.
Mr. Nketiah also revealed plans to amend the party’s constitution to designate June 22, Rawlings’ birthday, as a significant party day.
Additionally, the entire month of June is proposed to be commemorated annually as “NDC Month” by all party faithful’s and the general public at large.
Mr. Nketiah did not mince words in expressing displeasure with the current state of Revolutionary Square, located opposite the Jubilee House.
“Please establish a planning committee to advise on how we can get Revolutionary Square back to its original status. If we need to contact the Museums and Monuments Board, it must be done”, he noted.
This year’s commemoration was under the theme “Resetting Ghana: Reflecting on June 4” brought together some bigwigs of the NDC, party faithfuls and members of the late Rawlings’ family.
