Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed will represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, as the party had cleared amid allegations of vote buying during the primary.
Sources at the NDC headquarters say the decision comes after a three-member investigative committee reviewed allegations of vote buying during the February 7 parliamentary primaries.
The committee, chaired by Kofi Totobi Quakyi and including lawyer Emefa Fugah and former MP and Minister Inusah Fuseini, recommended measures to prevent future vote-buying.
Baba Jamal appeared before the panel and denied the allegations.
With the issue resolved, he is now officially NDC’s candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his decision to recall Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.
