The Minority in Parliament has accused Speaker Alban Bagbin of using procedural rules to limit debate and delay motions and questions from opposition members.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, January 26, 2026, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin described the actions as a “subtle culture of silence” that undermines parliamentary oversight.
“We are aware Mr Speaker is an NDC leading member. But where he sits is to protect both of us,” he said, urging the Speaker to focus on the substance of parliamentary work rather than technicalities.
The Minority called on Speaker Bagbin to focus on the substance of parliamentary work rather than getting bogged down in technicalities, insisting that fairness is essential for the proper functioning of Ghana’s democracy.
