President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, visited the family of the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Tuesday, October 28, to offer condolences following her passing.
President Mahama described her as a national icon, highlighting her achievements First Lady and mother of the nation.

He also announced that she will be given a state funeral on a date to be decided by the family and acknowledged her significant contributions as founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast, was a pioneering advocate for women’s empowerment.

As founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement in 1982, she spearheaded initiatives in skills training, business development, literacy, and inheritance rights, impacting thousands of women across Ghana.

Educated at Achimota School and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, she also studied Interior Design at the London College of Arts and earned diplomas in Advanced Personnel Management and Development.
Politically active, she served as the first Vice Chairperson of the NDC before forming the NDP and contesting the 2016 presidential election. She was married to former President Jerry John Rawlings, with whom she had four children: Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, Amina, and Kimathi.
