Kumasi is mourning the loss of a promising student after a tragic accident at Islamic Senior High School. Abass, a final-year student and acting Boys’ Prefect, reportedly fell from the top floor of the school’s administration block on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
The fall occurred during school hours, prompting students and staff to rush to his aid. He was immediately taken to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sources reveal that Abass had previously exhibited signs of distress, and family members confirmed that he had made remarks suggesting he might harm himself, though they believed he was joking. Some classmates also acknowledged noticing his struggles.
School authorities reported the incident to the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, but the GES has not yet issued an official statement.
The student has been laid to rest following Islamic burial rites. Family members and school officials are urging students and the public to take mental health concerns seriously and seek help for anyone showing signs of emotional distress.
