The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has announced the implementation of new measures to regulate environmental management practice in Ghana, following the passage of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124).
In a public notice dated January 6, 2026, the Authority said the new law mandates it to regulate, certify and register environmental management practitioners, including both individual experts and firms providing environmental management services across the country.
“The Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124) mandates the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to regulate, certify and register environmental practitioners in Ghana,” the notice stated.
Under Section 31(1) of the Act, the EPA is required to certify individual experts and firms offering environmental management services and maintain a register of certified practitioners authorised to provide such services.
According to the Authority, the register of certified environmental practitioners will be published on the EPA website and in the Environmental Bulletin established under the Act.
The EPA has also been empowered under Section 32 of the law to undertake environmental monitoring to ensure that approved environmental management systems and strategies are effectively implemented by regulated entities and practitioners.
The Authority said the notice is intended to inform stakeholders ahead of the full implementation of the certification and registration regime.
“This notice is issued to inform stakeholders in advance of the upcoming certification and registration requirements for Environmental Management Practitioners under the Act,” the EPA said.
The EPA added that training dates, application procedures and detailed guidelines will be announced in due course, and urged all practitioners and stakeholders to take note of the development and prepare accordingly.
