The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with faith-based institutions to enhance the delivery of quality education across Ghana.

The Minister made the remarks after receiving a delegation from the Conference of Regional Chief Imams, led by Dr. Sheikh Amin Bonsu, on the directive of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between the government and the Islamic education sector, with discussions centered on improving Islamic and Arabic education through curriculum development, infrastructure expansion, and other strategic interventions aimed at enhancing learning outcomes.

According to Mr Iddrisu, the engagement forms part of broader efforts by the government to ensure that all segments of the education sector are adequately supported to contribute meaningfully to national development.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to the equitable distribution of educational resources across the country, emphasizing that every child deserves access to quality education regardless of their geographical location, religious affiliation, or socio-economic background.

“The government remains committed to ensuring that every child has access to quality education and the opportunities needed to succeed,” the Minister stated.

Hon. Iddrisu further underscored the importance of partnerships with faith-based organizations, noting that such collaborations are essential to building an inclusive, responsive, and transformative education system.

He observed that religious institutions have historically played a significant role in Ghana’s educational development and continue to serve as important stakeholders in efforts to improve access and quality.

The delegation of Chief Imams, led by Dr. Sheikh Amin Bonsu, expressed appreciation for the engagement and highlighted the need for continued support for Islamic and Arabic education across the country.

They also pledged their readiness to work closely with the Ministry of Education to promote educational excellence and support initiatives aimed at improving learning opportunities for students within the Islamic education system.
