Thirteen-year-old Jeffery Adjei Boakye has successfully undergone a kidney transplant in India after businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama provided $40,000 to support the life-saving procedure.

The surgery was performed on Friday July 24, 2026, with Jeffery’s mother, Janet Koraman Kumi, confirming that the young boy is responding well to treatment and medication.

Jeffery, a Grade Seven pupil of Zion Praise Educational Complex at Maduma in the Ashanti Region, had been battling end-stage kidney disease and required urgent intervention after doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) determined that a transplant was his best chance of survival.

Before receiving support, the teenager had been undergoing haemodialysis three times a week as his health condition worsened, while his family struggled to raise funds for the procedure.

Mr. Mahama later stepped in to cover the full cost of the transplant, enabling preparations for Jeffery’s travel and treatment in India.

Following the successful operation, Mrs. Kumi expressed appreciation for the support, describing the assistance as a gesture that had given her son another chance at life.

Jeffery’s health challenges began from birth after he was born prematurely with congenital abnormalities affecting his urinary tract. The condition later developed into chronic kidney disease and eventually progressed to kidney failure.

Although doctors say he remains vulnerable to infections due to his weakened immune system, they are optimistic that the transplant will improve his health and long-term recovery.

The successful procedure has offered renewed hope to Jeffery and his family, highlighting the impact of timely medical support and humanitarian intervention in critical health situations.
