The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to vet five aspirants seeking to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat, as the party prepares for its internal primary ahead of the by-election.
This was announced by the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Tanko Computer, who said the vetting will take place today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as part of efforts to ensure a smooth and transparent selection process.
According to him, the vetting exercise will be immediately followed by balloting, after which any complaints or disputes will be referred to the party’s aggrieved committee for resolution before the printing of ballot papers.
The contenders are Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament Mahama Naser Toure; Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed; the NDC’s Ayawaso East Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Ramme; Dr. Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed Sani.
Tanko Computer noted that the party is keen on concluding all internal processes promptly to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) adequate time to organise the primary scheduled for February 7, 2026.
The parliamentary by-election, set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, by the EC, will see the NDC present a candidate to replace the late Mahama Naser Toure, who represented Ayawaso East on the ticket of the party before his passing.
