The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has issued a bold ultimatum ahead of the September 2, 2025, Akwatia by-election, declaring he will resign from Parliament if his party fails to reclaim the seat.
“If NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP—mark my words!” he vowed.
The by-election follows the passing of Ernest Kumi, who represented Akwatia in Parliament until his death.
The contest has now been narrowed to the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu and the NDC’s Bernard Bediako in what is expected to be a fiercely fought race.
Adding to the pressure on the NPP, a new poll by Global InfoAnalytics projects the NDC’s Bernard Bediako leading with 53% of the vote, placing the governing party ahead of its main rival.
