The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has met with the Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, to discuss strengthening collaboration in healthcare delivery.
The meeting explored how the Trust Fund could complement the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by providing targeted support to close healthcare gaps nationwide.
Both institutions underscored the importance of aligning strategies to improve access, affordability, and sustainability in the health sector.
Ms. Darko-Opoku reaffirmed the Fund’s readiness to partner with the NHIA in developing innovative, long-term solutions for the sector.
Dr. Bampoe welcomed the move, stressing that a united approach between the two bodies could be transformative in building a more inclusive and resilient healthcare system for Ghanaians.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, upon commencement, will be dedicated to reducing the financial strain on patients and their families by supporting the cost of high-priced treatments, surgeries, and medications that many citizens cannot afford.
The initiative will be implemented in phases, with further information on its framework, eligibility requirements, and governance arrangements to be detailed in subsidiary legislation and operational guidelines.
