The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced a set of enhanced security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the region.
In a statement, REGSEC said security patrols will be intensified throughout the festive season, with joint operations involving the Ghana Police Service and the Military to protect lives and property.
As part of the measures, the Council has banned the use of motorbikes that are not properly registered or fitted with functional lights, warning that such motorcycles will not be allowed on the roads during the period.
The sale, purchase and use of firecrackers have also been prohibited as authorities move to prevent disturbances and possible injuries.
REGSEC further urged residents to take personal responsibility for their safety, particularly at their homes, and to remain vigilant throughout the festive season. It cautioned that any action or inaction that threatens peace and security will be dealt with firmly by the security agencies.
The Council assured the public of the government’s continued commitment to maintaining law and order, stressing that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a safe environment for residents and visitors.
The statement, signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, concluded with a message wishing the public a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
