Member of Parliament for Tempane, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has called for an independent and transparent investigation into two violent incidents that have rocked her constituency — the killing of an immigration officer and an alleged military assault on civilians.
The MP described both incidents as “deeply troubling” and urged the government and security agencies to act swiftly to restore calm and confidence among residents.
On Sunday, November 2, 2025, two immigration officers were ambushed by unidentified gunmen while returning from patrol at Nagani. One officer died from gunshot wounds, while the other remains in critical condition. The attackers reportedly escaped with two AK-47 rifles belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service.
The Ghana Police Service has since launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting, with the Inspector-General of Police dispatching a team of investigators and intelligence officers to support efforts to track down the perpetrators.
A day after the attack, on November 3, reports emerged of a separate military operation in Basyonde, where soldiers allegedly stormed the community and assaulted residents. Several people reportedly sustained injuries, triggering fear and outrage among locals.
In a statement, Mrs. Akanvariba condemned the military’s alleged actions, stressing that while the state must investigate criminal acts, it must not “punish the innocent for the actions of a few.”
She urged the government, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the police to ensure accountability and transparency in handling both incidents, emphasizing the need to rebuild public trust and uphold the rule of law.
“As your representative, I assure you that your safety, dignity, and rights will always be my priority,” she said, appealing to residents to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations continue.
