Some communities in Kumasi are expected to experience planned power interruptions from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) undertake works on a major transmission line upgrade.
The planned outages are part of the 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo (K1–K2) Transmission Line Upgrade Project, which has reached 70% completion, according to a joint statement issued by GRIDCo and ECG on Thursday, October 29.
The companies said the interruptions were necessary to allow engineers to safely complete the stringing of transmission conductors on towers along the project route.
Under the arrangement, affected communities will experience power outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on scheduled working days, excluding weekends.
GRIDCo and ECG explained that the interruptions were required to protect workers and members of the public during the ongoing construction activities.
“The project has reached a critical stage involving the stringing of transmission conductors on the towers. This activity requires planned interruptions in electricity supply to some communities along the line route to protect the lives of engineers, other personnel working on the project and members of the public,” the statement said.
The Electricity Company of Ghana is expected to publish a comprehensive schedule indicating the affected communities and their respective outage dates to help consumers prepare.
The project, which is expected to improve electricity supply reliability in Kumasi and its surrounding areas, is scheduled for completion by the end of November 2026.
GRIDCo and ECG have appealed to residents and businesses in affected communities to exercise patience and cooperate with the exercise.
The companies said the project represents an important investment in strengthening the transmission network and improving electricity supply reliability in the Ashanti Region.
