Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, an aspiring National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), is set to begin his nationwide campaign tour in the Volta Region on Monday, November 2, 2026.

In a press release dated October 29, 2026, his campaign team said the decision to begin the tour in the Volta Region recognises the region’s historic loyalty, sacrifices and contributions to the growth and electoral successes of the NDC.

The statement was issued by Hon. Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Convenor of the AOF4C Campaign Team for Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu’s bid for NDC National Chairman.

The team also described the region as strategically important to the party’s future.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Dr Opong-Fosu to engage party stakeholders, listen to their concerns and share his vision under the campaign theme, “Consolidating the Gains.”

The campaign seeks to protect the achievements and legacy of President John Dramani Mahama while positioning the NDC to retain political power in 2028 and beyond.

The planned engagements will involve regional and constituency executives, delegates, branch executives, party elders, cadres, former and current Members of Parliament, former and current government appointees, as well as other key stakeholders.

According to the campaign team, the interactions are intended to build consensus around a stronger, more united and inclusive party.

The campaign is anchored on the 3Vs — Votes, Voice and Viability — which it says will ensure grassroots members are recognised, heard and economically empowered.

The campaign team is presenting Dr Opong-Fosu’s experience in party organisation, public administration and government as central to his bid for the national chairmanship.

It described him as a founding member of the NDC, a former Member of Parliament and former Minister of State, with an understanding of the party’s foundations, grassroots structures and leadership demands.

The team said his experience and institutional knowledge would be important in strengthening party unity, consolidating its achievements and safeguarding its political future.

The campaign is being conducted under the slogan “Consolidating the Gains!”, with Votes, Voice and Viability serving as its guiding principles.
