The Fisheries Commission, through its Marine Fisheries Management Division (MFMD), has held a quarterly stakeholder engagement with trawler fishing vessel operators to discuss key operational and regulatory issues affecting Ghana’s trawl fisheries.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the NAFAG Hall in Tema, bringing together the Commission and industry operators to discuss matters relating to fishing operations and regulatory compliance.
Key issues discussed included the gear selectivity and catchability survey report, documentation required for fishing licence applications, licence renewals and fees, submission of catch returns, and the welfare of fisheries observers.
Participants also received updates on the Ministerial Directive on fishing gear, with discussions focused on improving communication, strengthening compliance with fisheries regulations and promoting collaboration between the Commission and trawler operators.
The engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to raise concerns, exchange information and discuss ways to address challenges within the trawl fishing sector.
The Fisheries Commission reaffirmed its commitment to constructive stakeholder engagement as part of efforts to promote responsible fishing practices and ensure the sustainable management of Ghana’s fisheries resources.
