The Mantse Ankrah Royal Family of Otublohum Daadeban-Na in the Greater Accra Region has returned to its ancestral home in Denkyiraman after 365 years, in a historic reunion between the two traditional states.

The delegation, led by Nii Okanta Ankrah II, Otublohum Mantse Ankrah, was officially received by the Denkyirahene, Odeefoɔ Boa Amponsem IV, at the Amponsem Ahenfie Palace in Dunkwa-on-Offin on Saturday, October 11, 2026.

The visit took place on Dapaa, the eve of the seventh Akwasidae, marking what the royal family described as a significant moment in the history of the Otublohum and Denkyira traditional areas.

According to oral history, the Otublohum royal lineage traces its ancestry to Otu Ahiakwa, a Denkyira royal from Abankeseso who left Denkyira around 1660 to establish the Otublohum State in Ga Mashie, Accra.

Addressing the Denkyirahene, Nii Okanta Ankrah II said his return was not a personal homecoming but one involving all the Stools under his authority, reaffirming their ancestral ties to Denkyira.

“I have not just returned home alone. I have come home with all the Stools under me to serve the Denkyira Stool.

For 365 years we left as Otu Ahiakwa, Royals of Denkyira. Today, Otublohum returns to Denkyira,” he declared.

In response, Odeefoɔ Boa Amponsem IV welcomed the delegation and pledged his support, describing the returning royals as his grandchildren.

“You are my grandchildren. You left as royals and you have returned as royals. I will support you whether rain or shine, evening or day, whenever you call on me. The doors of Denkyiraman are forever open to you,” the Denkyirahene said.

As part of the historic reunion, Odeefoɔ Boa Amponsem IV announced that the last Adaekese of the Denkyira calendar year, scheduled to be celebrated at Jukwa, the traditional home of Denkyira, would be dedicated to the returning Otublohum royals.

The celebration will be themed “Otublohum Adaekese” in honour of the descendants of Otu Ahiakwa and their return to their ancestral roots after more than three and a half centuries.

The announcement is being regarded as a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, ancestral recognition and renewed ties between Denkyira and Otublohum.

According to the account of the event, the dedication would mark the first time an Adaekese celebration at Jukwa had been themed specifically to honour a returning Ga State.

The reunion brings a 365-year historical journey full circle, reconnecting the royal lineage from Abankeseso in Denkyira to Otublohum in Accra and back to its ancestral homeland at Jukwa.

The planned Otublohum Adaekese is expected to provide a platform for celebrating shared heritage, strengthening traditional relationships and preserving the oral history linking the two states.
